Steroid dose converter
Glucocorticoid-equivalent doses between prednisolone, deflazacort, methylprednisolone, dexamethasone, hydrocortisone and more.
Equivalence used
| Glucocorticoid | Dose equivalent to prednisolone 5 mg |
|---|---|
| Hydrocortisone | 20 mg |
| Prednisolone / prednisone | 5 mg |
| Methylprednisolone | 4 mg |
| Triamcinolone | 4 mg |
| Deflazacort | 6 mg |
| Dexamethasone | 0.75 mg |
| Betamethasone | 0.75 mg |
Equivalence refers to glucocorticoid (anti-inflammatory) potency. Mineralocorticoid effects, duration of action and route differ — dexamethasone and betamethasone are long-acting with negligible mineralocorticoid activity; hydrocortisone has substantial mineralocorticoid activity.
Standard equivalence tables (e.g. British National Formulary). Deflazacort ratio is approximate (~1.2:1 to prednisolone).
